What Makes a Car Collectible?

The early Porsche 911 is the bright star for serious players

Several years ago I sat down with Porsche restorer Frank Mattingly of Southern California. He happened to be working with a classic car business that I had as a client. Mattingly had a rare 1960s model Porsche 911 that he was preparing for restoration and I took the opportunity to talk with him about it.

There was no Hollywood make-up department, no frills, just Mattingly and me. He was sweaty and hotter than heck under my camera lights, but what he says about vehicles of this caliber are priceless moments.

It’s a 2 minute short history of the 911 and how values are often determined by experts, through the eyes of Mattingly, who has spent his life around the German marque.
